that ordlnnnco hnd boon In force for
the past six months, when from $20,
000 to $40,000 havo been lying In

Hank Cannot Ho Treasurer.
Mr. Moorcs, In reporting tho bill,

Tho mnyor ruled that, undor tho

uso of tho fund?, ns many thousands
ot dollars of those funds woro tun

After full discission the ordlnanco
wns unanimously passed.

LOSS OF DIAMOND
FATAL TO POULTRY
I United I'ret I.taiod Wire.
Rodondo, Cal., June 22. After
killing ovory member ot his largo
flock ot turkeys nnd prlzo Whlto
Leghorn chlckons, nnd examining
their craws lu tho hopo of recovering
n $350 diamond ho lost, William Cro
nln has come to tho concluilon that
ono of tho sea gulls that froquont the
bench near his homo gulped tho gem,
nnd sailed away to the coast of Hon
duras. After mowing his lawn yestexdny
morning, Cronln found that tho gem
was ml sing from his ring. Imme
diately he had every Inch of tho lawn
raked with combs and sifted the loose
soil. It wns not found.
A neighbor suggested that possi
bly a foraging hen had had picked
up tho diamond, which led to tho sum
mnry execution of tho Cronln hon
flock. Still the valuable diamond Is
missing, nnd tho theory was ad
vanced that ono of tho hundreds ot
giills that frequent that section ot
tho beach had been attracted by the
spnrklor, and had claimed It for Its
own. Cronln ha- not given up the
search.
