lads of this city are in the custody
of the potiee at Salinas today, a plan
they evolved to aid the country of
Its remaining Indians having been
frustrated by the authorities.
The boys, who are being held
awaiting the arrival of officers from
this city, are Charies Skuse .George
Honneesffy and John Scbafer.
The three Indian fightors yesterday
appropriated a horse and buggy on
one of the main streets of San Jose,
and after loading the buggy with
firearms and ammunition, drove
across the mountains to Santa Cruz,
37 miles. There they left their ex
hausted horse, round another on Pa
cific avenue and continued to Salinas.
The officers of Santa Cruz, Santa
Clara and Monterey counties were no
tified to search for the missing boys
aad the mountain roads were patroled
all day and far Into the night.
The lads were captured after they
had made a third exchange of horses
They stated that they Intended to
scour the mountains for the redskins
who still arc In hiding there.
