Ingredients give to Hood's Sar
saparilla Its great curative power -nower
to euro many and vnried com
plaints, Including diseases of the blood,
ailments of tho stomach, troubles of
the kidneys and liver.
Many of the ingredients are just what
tho profession prcscribo in tho ailments
named, but tho combination nnd pro
portions aro peculiar to this medicine, and
rIvo it curative power peculiar to itself.
Therefore, there can bo no substitute
for Hood's. Get it in tho usual liquid
form, or in tablets called Saraatabs.
SAL3M HARD HIT AND HAS LOST FRIENDS.
The failure of the $350,000 appropriation bills hits the
Capital City hard,
IT HITS US WHERE WE LIVE.
The refusal of the legislators to return to the city and rati
fy the error was not remarkable,
TOO MANY OF THEM HAD THEIR TOES TRODDEN UPON.
But for the good-will engendered by the Board of Trade
banquet Salem might have fared worse,
As it was, enough had been done TO LEAVE A BAD
TASTE IN MANY MOUTHS.
Salem must send men of bigger calibre and broader views
to one house at least, and perhaps both,
The little fellows who were stepped on HAVE THEIR RE
VENGE AT SALEM'S EXPENSE.
The Capital Journal did not beliqve it was good business
for any Salem man to propose to abolish the Normal Schools,
The day is coming when Salem will need friends TO HOLD
THE STATE CAPITAL AND THE STATE FAIR.
No Salem man can afford to fight other counties having
similar Interests,
Sonators from Lane county and Benton county WERE IN
THE SAME BOAT.
But the battle Is over and no use to cry for spilled milk,
Salem will need to put forward hor strongest and best men
In tho next legislature to hold her own and make new friends,
' 0
PROGRESSIVE WASHINGTON.
How kindly tho Oregonian glosses ovor the "extravagance"
of tho state of Washington,
IT ONLY ASKS FOR SEVEN MILLIQN DOLLARS IN THE
LEGISLATURE.
How awfully It roasted the Oregon legislators who appropri
ated a littlo loss than half that amount,
EVERYTHING OREGON DOES IS WRONG, says tho Ore
gonian, Everything Washington does is right,
Tho Oregonian bettor move to. Washington,
It knovs tho people of that state WOULD NOT TOLER
ATE ITSPOLICIES SIX MONTHS.
But poor old Orogon will havo to stand for it for. years
to como,
In all conscience, Oregon legislator appropriated enough,
Much of tho sovon millions appropriated in Washington
comos OUT OF THEIR MILLIONS OF SCHOOL FUNDS.
In Oregon taxes mount highor and higher,
Tho people will not oncliuo much longer THE INCREASE
IN TAXES.
Othor statos put a limit on tho amount of direct taxes
that can bo levied for state pumosos,
Tho amount of direct tfixos for county purposes SHOULD
BE LIMITED.
It is not tho amount appropriated in Washington that
counts,
It is tho misappropriation of funds and the property that
osonpos taxation that hurts in OrogQii.
YOUNG LOOKED GOOD TO THEM.
Tho Washington correspondent of the Oregonian thought
Sonntor Bourne committed A GREAT BLUNDER in showing to
tho committee of Senators his candidate foi postmaster at
Portland,
But tho Sonatois though otherwise, They do not read the
Orogonian,
HE LOOKED GOOD TO THEM.
Young Is not a handsome man, but he has brains.
Ho Is an organizer, a master of details, one of the world's
tlreloss workorsi
Ho has a singod-cat appearance TO THE'FAT AND SLEEK
DUDES and parasites of the national capital,
Mr, Young is a man who has left his mark on Oregon poll
tics, Ho has boon a poor man all his life. It will seem queer
to him to draw a fat salary, It will look good to him.

If you had positive proof that a certain remedy for
female ills had made many remarkable cures, would you
not feel like trying it?
If during the last thirty years we have not succeeded in
convincing every fair-minded woman that Lydia E. Pink
ham's Vegetable Compound has cured thousands and thou
sands of women of the ills peculiar to their sex, then we
long for an opportunity to do so by direct correspondence.
Meanwhile read the following letters which we guarantee
to be genuine and truthful.

There is absolutely no doubt about the ability of this

For 30 years Lydia 13. Pinkliam's Vegetable
