BENJAMIN HAYDEN DIES
PEACEFULLY AT HOME
Hon. Benjamin Haydon died at
tho family rcsldenco ,574 North Uth
street, this city, at 8:30 a. in., at tho
age of 80 joars He hns been fall
lug 'for some tlmo, and passed ou
his Journoy very peacefully.
Mr. Haydon wag one of -the path
Anders with John C. Kromont, who
wont to California In 1S49. He
crossed tho plains with an Immi
grant train with the young women
who became his wife and survives
him in 1852, locating in Oregon.
Judgo Haydon was the first coun
ty judge of Polk county when 4hat
county embraced nearly one-fourth
or tho state He was in the front
rank of the legal profession In pio
neer days, and enjoyed a largo prac
tice, bolus oao of tho most successful
lury lawyers.
Ho was noted for his wit, oh
quonco and originality, and was
possQised of umny characteristics of
a strong and Quaint originality. He
was a man of tho purest motives
and tho greatest klndnog of heart
Ho was a Democrat in politics, but
bolonged 4o no church or lodgo. Ho
leaves two sons, William and dell,
and a daughter Estella.
Tho funoral of Judge Hayden will
bo hold from his lato residence on
Friday at 2 p. in. Burial at Hnrnl
