St. Petersburg, Sept. 21. Premier
Stolypla today personally assumed
charge of tho cholera situation here.
His first aot was tho removal of a
number of Incompetent authorities,
and the creation of new sanitary dis
tricts. The premier then ordered the Bale
of liquor restricted, and the stricken
districts of tho city policed with regu
larity and rigor.
Moro nurses wcro stricken todax
and the situation Is hourly growing
worse. All ordinary patients havo
been turned away from tho hospitals,
to make room for those stricken with
cholera. Tho city authorities today
voted 500,000 roubles (about $250,
000) for tho erection of new. hospi
tals to care for tho plague-stricken
populace.
It Is generally admitted that there
arc at least 4000 cases of cholera
In St. Petersburg alone. Many deaths
havo occurred on the streets, and
many of the- stricken people died be
