"Camp Kolthley Is 600 miles south
of Manila, on tho largo Island of
Mindanao, In hostile Moro territory.
Although this region wai nominally
under Spanish control for nearly 40.0
yearn, there are but two points at
which the Spaniard established per
manent stations, and they aro-both on
the seashore. At no timo did they1
succeed in subduing tho natives or
giving them an idea of a civilized
form of government, '
