Mayor Rodgers has received the
following self-explanatory letter
from Bnrcolona, Spain, signed by
one Luis Ramos, who claims to bo
a relative of tho mayor. This letter
13 an old "gng" which was tried up
on a Salem resident several years
ago. So far no one has succeeded In
discovering tho Spanish persons who
are using tho mnlls for fraudulent
purposes. Tho letter, dated June
17, Is as follews:
"Barcelona, June 17, 1908. Mr.
Oeorgo F. Rodgers, dear sir: Al
though I am only acquainted with
you by tho references that my dear
wife, a rolattivo of yours, always gavo
mo when remembering tho members
of her family Bho mentioned tho
honesty and good feelings that dis
tinguished you I address myself to
you for tho first and porhaps tho
last time, because tho gravoness of
my health compels mo to mako you
know my real situation and beg
your holp and protection for my only
daughter, Mary, a young girl 14
years old, who is now at a pension
house. I will Inform you that mv

Rodgers.

to mo by cablo and then, on receiv
ing your holp, I shall send tho good
chaplain and my daughter to your
houso with all my luggago and I

which I shall bequeath to your

stock as a reward to your bounty
