escaped.
The fire, starting In tho combus
tibles, spread with great rapidity nnd
tho firemen consider It a mlrnclo that
more wero not killed.
Many of those Injured in the
stampede wore small children who
had gone to the store with a few
cents to buy fireworks for tomorrow's
celebration.
The firemen this afternoon hnve

port that the fivo persons who died

who did. not escape. Tho panic nnd
flro caused the greatest excitement

school.

with 2332 cases and three deaths.

deaths, while Pennsylvania reports
only 11 cases and 'none 'fatal. Illi
