dent Grover Cleveland was a great
shock here, where his remarkable
oonflnomont In the Lakewood hotel
was the subject of the keenest inter
est all spring.
Deopost mystery surrounded the
Illness of the former president. Ha
came thore In March, while the sea
son was on at tho Lakewood hotl.
There were many guests In the hotel.
A tremendous sensation was
caused when Nathan Strauss of New
York, a dose friend of Cleveland and
owner of the hotel, gavo arbitrary
orders that It be closed nt once.

management denied that the season
