Last September a Teachersi Train
ing class of 20 members was organ
ized In the high school under the
direction of City .Superintendent
Powers. Tho cIhbs studied tho the
ory nnd art of teaching, school meth
ods and mnnagemont, the stato
course of study, and tho course of
study for tho Salem city schools. In
addition, the clnBs devoted two hours
a week to observational work In the
city schools, and two weeks of actual
teaching in various grades of tho
city schools was done by each mem
ber of tho class. Students tnklni;
this work ns a part of their high
school course, may after graduation,
complete the courso nt tho Mon
mouth Stnto Normal school In ona
year. Tho stato normal schools will
give duo credit for this work whether
tho students grnduates from tho high
school or not. There aro other ob
vious advantages which this courso
offers to young peoplo who nro plan
ning to become tenchoro, but who
cannot afford to attend any of tho
