BITTER
BATTLE
1 OF SOULS
( United Press Leased Who.)
Chicago, April 14. "In my opin
ion, Christianity Is In .the most griev
ous crisis of Its history. I do not re
fer to controversies In newspapers
and on tho streets, but to the quiet,
bitter battle which serious men ore
fighting out in their own souls, It
Is the dying of the old faith which
Christianity Is experiencing."
In those words George Durman
Foster, of the divinity school of the
University of Chicago, strikes the
key note of remarkable os3ay, "con-
earning the religious hauls of ethics"
In tho American Journal of Theology
for April. Activity of tho churches
and their apparent prosperity, ac
cording to tli daring theologian, are
only throos which precede dissolu
tion.
