The town is tho typical Nevada

To get back to business, for I am
prone to digression nrrnncements
have been completed for pulling In
four fair sized mills six miles from
town whoro water can bo obtnlued
from wells. The. water for drinking
purposes, etc., is hauled four miles
and sells for 12 a barrel. It Is fair
ly good but doeBn't size up with Sn
lem's supply not by n long ways.
Last week the business men and
mincowner8 concluded to build a
railroad to connect with tho S. P. at
Sohurz or Walker Lake, 30 mlloa.
Fifty thousand dollars was sub
scribed in two hours for tho nrelim-
Jnary work. A petition asking for
a right of way sent tho county com
missioners, negotiations for rails
begun, and it Is expected the road
will be runnng Into Rawhide by
July 4. It Is expected tho mills for
working the ores of 4he district will
be orcoted at tho .road's terminus on
Walker Lake as thoro water is
abundant and fuel available over the
S. P. linos. At nresent wood 1b soil
ing here at $30 per cord and is
hauled about 30 miles. It is mostly
nut plna, with some Junlpor. Lodg
ing houses aro plentiful, but still
crowded. They aro furnished with
slnglo cots placed olose tocethor. and
cost 75 cents a shift, rb some of them
no uouble time. This. If thev are alt
in one corral, if partitioned off with
a fow yards of calloa so that on can
have the utmost privacy tho price
is a dollar. A fairly good meal can
se had for half a dollar and the ne
cessities, whiskey and cigars are
nanaed over tho har at two for a
