board, which consists of Governor

representatives of the upper river
men could be present. Consequent
ly F. A. Sufert and F. N. Warren
wero communicated with, and agreed
to come here today. '
Regarding a successor for Van
Duaen for it Is the unanimous opin
ion of tho bonrd that he should gu
no one has boen generally select
ed, though Charles Baboock. of Ore
gon City, is the strongest candidate
at tho protein time, ho practically
being already orulorsed by Treasurer
Stel. This endorsement Is mors
than has been done by either Cham
berlaln or Bonson. neither of whom
hnw yet advanced a name.
It Is the unanimous opinion of tho
board that neither an upper or low
er river resident be selocted. Tho
following names have been handod
in to the board with recommondation
for appeintment: J. U. Campbell, of
Oregon Ctty; Herman A. Webster, of
Oregon City; Charles Babcook. of
Orogon City; II. C McAllister, of
Pertland: W. A. Mack, of Portland
