has been confined to his room for
about a year. His last visit to this
city was on December 15, 190C. Ho
lived near Salem on his donation
land claim almost continuously since
tho day of his arrival, September 11,
1846. and few mon woro better
known, had moro frionds or a bigger
hoart than "Undo" John Savage.
Ho was a nntlve of Coshocton
county, Ohio, born Soptombor 1C,
1820, and wont to Michigan in 1829
wHh his pnronts, and loft with thorn
for Oregon, March 18, 1S4C. His
llrst wlfo was Ithoda Presley, mnr
rlesl in tho fall of 1S50. To thorn
woro born eight children, flvo living,
Mrs. W. G. Evans nnd Mrs. Kllza
Keppingor, of nrooks; O. O. Savago,
and Mrs. Ella Byrne, of Salem, nnd
Mrs, L. T. Olonson, of Oervnls. Up
married again In 1871 to Mrs. Elea
nor llerrln, who survivos him. Do-
ceased had no church connection,
but was a mombor of tho Masonic
