GIRL'S AWFUL CRIME.
Treats Murder of Lover in Joking
Milliner Object Degenerate.
Confession of a crime of the most
brutal character has been callously
made by Greto Beler, a good looking
girl of 22, tho daughter of the late
mayor of Brand, in Saxony. For
cool deliberation on tho part of tho
perpetrator, who snared her victim
with a Joke, tho story is ono almost
without parallel in criminal annals.
On May 14 a chief engineer naraoi
Pressler was found lying dead in the
furnished room which ho had rented
in the great Industrial center of
Chemnitz A bullet had passed
through his bead by way of the
mouth, tho revolver from which it
baa been fired was at his side, and
appearances pointed to suicide. His
InnHlnrlv hnwAtnr Insisted that the
dead man llad never possessed a fire
arm, but the pollco scoffed at ner as
sertion, and carao to the conclusion
that he bad taken his own life.
There tho matter wbh allowed to
rest. It waB remarked at tho time,
caso, that Pressler was shortly to
havo boon married, and nmong his
papora was found a will leaving his
entlro possessions to his flancoo,
Groto Boior.
'Sho, bowovor, Boon consoled hor
solf with another lover, a morchant
named Merkel, living In Dresden.
Subsequently bor father died, and n
fow days ago sho, hor mother, and
hor new lovor woro all taken Into
custody on a chnrgo of forging the
will of a cltlzon of Freiburg. In con
nection with tho accusation tho hounc
was searched, and a number of pa
pers woro discovered which suggested
that tho girl must havo had a band
in tho denth of her former lovor.
On being confronted with thosrt
evidences of hor crimo tho girl con
fessed to It in tho most heartlosi
manner, tolling tho story as though
it was a good Joke. Sho said sho ha'l
called upon Prossler, and, with a
great Bhow of animation and high
spirits, told him that sho had Just
been to tho fair and bought him a
beautiful prosont. It was, however,
to bo a "surprise, so ho must allow
himself to bo blindfolded." To thl?
ho good-naturally submitted. Then
sho told him to open his mouth, and
this he also did. Tho girl then
whipped out a rovolver, and, coollly
placing tho barrel between his teeth,
blew out his brains. Sho had taken
with her on her visit to tho unlfortu
nato man tho will that was found
loavlng everything to hor, and se
creted It among his papers.
After the girl'- amazing confession
further Investigations wora made,
with tho result that sho has boon
charged with a number of otboi
crimes. It Is alleged that sho mur
dered several children and buried
tho bodies in her fathor's garden.
Sho Is suspected of a series of forger
ies and has confessed to a chargo of
embezzling n friend's saving bank ac
count of a Irrge sum of money.
