Although several other prominent men wore Indicted with him, Sena tor Bornh has been granted tho privilege of a separate trial. Wit nesses have been subpoenaed for Monday, the dato set for tho begin ning of tho trial, and lt is believed that there will be no delay, as Borah has been insistent in demnnding an Immediate trial. It is likely that tho trial of George Pettlbono, who wub indicted wit,h Haywood and Moyer for tho mur der of ex-Governor Stoun'onberg, will have to bo postponed na a result of tho Borah trial. In that case, at torneys for tho Western Federation of Miners will probably demand his release on ball. If Bornh should.be convicted it is gonornlly believed that tho case against Pottibono nnd Moyer would bo dropped. Borah has been the mainstay of tho state in the prosecution of tho federation leaders, and If ho should bo con victed of n crlmo It would servo to thoroughly discredit the state In the Stcunonborg case. Thero are two deep and boggy financial morasses In the dismal Oregon TniBt & SavlngB bank swnmp through which tho simple minded depositors nnd creditors havo not been able to wado without feeling Ilko cussing Bomobody. Both appear In Receiver DovIIu'b report. Tho moro tho bulky document la analyzed tho deeper and boggier be comes the Bwamp. Tho flrBt morass is tho list of 1SG soparato accounts under "loans and discounts," aggre gating $326,834.02, not ono of which boarB indorsement or Is rep resented by collateral. Tho other morass Is the $275,000 worth of overdrafts, a Blnglo one of which nmounts'dOMnora than $100,000, and bo far as appears In tho Dovlln report not a cent of this mighty sum Is secured. In other wordB, thero Is a grand total of moro than $584,000 for which tho bank cannot show a scrap of security othor than the Individual notes of tho custom ers, in tho cnBO of tho frco and easy loans made, nnd with nothing but tho well or bad placed confldonco In tho dosposltors for tho ovordrnffs. Staring out from all this chaos Is tho bold fact that tho bank allowed ono single customor to carry an overdraft In excess of tho bank' total paid-up capital. Two and ono hnlf times tho bank's capital wan carried In overdrafts, and threo nnd one-hnlf times, nearly, was carried in unsecured loans. Accounts such ns that of a moro nutomobilo repair shop which could ns a firm borrow $12,000, and the individual partners $2000 moro, and on top of this bo extonded tho cour tosy of n $947.70 ovedrnft, Is nn- othor example- o'f tho Chndwlcklan finnnco system which took placo within tho plastered walls of tho bank on the corner. A fraternal order, local In char acter, through tho porsonal friend ship of ono of Its officers with the cashier of tho bank, was nblo to bor row $33,000 without scratch of ln doresoment or collateral. Sovoral "papor" enterprises, ono of which is defunct already, another tangled up hopelessly in litigation, and in all of which Cashier Morris was In terested or maintained wnrm porsonal friendships with tholr pro motors, aro creditors of tho bank to tho tune of thousands.
