Local Lumbermen Say the State Fair
Board Has Gone Into Business
t
$
It Is charged that tho Stato, Fair
Board, through Its secretary, has
gono Into tho shlnglo business, of
fering to supply tho market at cut
prices. Somo builders aro reported
to havo bought shingles as low as
$3.00, and oven $2.85 por thousand
from tho stato fair supply.
Tho lumber yard men hold a con
ference this morning, and claim, they
cannot compete with tho stato shln
glo business. Ono of thorn said:
"It seems that tho rotall lumber
nnd shlnglo merchant is to bo grad
ually forced out of his position, since
tho stato boards have branched out
In this business. Hnvlng a very lib
eral amount of stato money to carry
on tho samo, they aro able to fur
nish material to contractors and oth
er customers of tho fotall lumber
merchant at prices that would soon
forco him out of business. It seems
to mo to ho out of plnco for tho stato
officials to ontor into competition
with tho legitimate retail business of
tho city.
