Minneapolis, Minn., Oct. 25.
Bernard F. Vager, called the "luck
iest man on the Great Northern sys
tem," is dead. Ho was pinned under
an engine, and ordered a brakeman
to amputate his right leg with an
ax. The operation was performed
at one blow, and a tornlquet was ap
plied, according to the injured 'man's
directions. He was carried 20 miles
on a handcar and 100 miles on an
improvised train to Ely, Manitoba,
where he died from loss of blood.
Kansas City, Kan., Oct. 2-5. One
body, believed to bo that of Daniel
Young, was taken from the ruins of
what was formerly the Chamber of
Commerce, which burned this morn
ing. It Is supposed there are other
bodies in the debris. The loss Is
$50,000.
