the governor, State Land Agent
West, Dr. W. B. Morse, Judge Lionel
Webster and others to the Harney
county fair, says tho others of tho
party jobbed him at the races and
that ho had to borrow money to
como home on. At tho races tho
other Salem boys got a race track
tout to give Jeff tips on the low
horse every time and thon they won
all his money. This occurred at
every race. The final event was a
foot race between two Indian boys
from Umatilla reservation. Through
some mistake, the tout gave the
great father of tho Lewis and Clark
exposition the tip on tho fast In
dian and Myers won. Then tho
Judges declared that there was an
error In tho starting and gave the
raco over. They then substituted a
new Indian and Myers lost again.
