This Is a place that combines the conveniences of city life with thq, pleasures of the rural, a place where one can enjoy an outing in a well kept camp, yet have the conveniences' of a city. Thero will bo two meat markets and a grocery store on the grounds which will supply tho camp with good wholesomo food; there are two wells of fine water and tho grounds have a sanitary system that is mod ern In every respect. The Wells a Study. Tho wells are only 180 feet apart, yet there is 20 feet difference In the depth of water. The formations and strata of tho two are entirely different, one being of gravel and bed rock while tho other contralns, beneath the strata of rock, sendlment and vegetation. In digging tho 65 foot well a layer of rock was struck and when this was broken through tho pipes drop per 5 feet In quick sand and a largo cedar log was struck which was prob ably deposited there when tho Wil lamette valley was an Inland sea and before Mt. The lat ter Is suspended on a concrete pier 2-1 feet square, and when opened after construction was found to bal ance perfectly. In the construction of the draw alone, 14,000 rivets were used. At the end of the brldgo a neat house has been erected for the use of the watchman, who Is on duty all the time, though tho opening of the bridge will be a rare occurence. The last time the draw of the old. bridge was opened for a steamer was In March, 1904. The watchman will have a rather easy time of It. The bridge was built by the mnln-tenance-of-way department of the road, and the excellent of the depart ment can bo realized when It is known that tho Springfield bridge started three weeks earlier by the construction department, a very much easier bridge to build, has not yet been completed, nor will ft be for some llttlo time. A generous lump of soda placed In pots and pans In which fish, cab bage, onions and other Btrong-smell- Inc foods havo been cooked, will thoroughly cleanse and mako them smell sweet and clean. A teaspoonful ' of vinegar boiling on the, stovo will counteract the smell of strong food. A teaspoonful of ground cloves on a few hot coals will produce the same result. A few drops of sandalwood oil dropped on a hot stovo Is a delight ful deodorizer. A snongo placed In a saucer of boiling hot water, in which has been added a teaspoonful of oil of laven der, gives fragrance of violets to a room in which it is placed. A larKO lump of charcoal In a re frigerator will prevent a musty smell. A nound of copperas dissolved In boiling water, If poured Into drain pipes, will dissolve the grease and other impurities. An onion breath may bo gotten nu of by swallowing a mouthful of vine gar or drinking halt a cup of hot ater In which a pinch of baking soda has been dissolved. A few mouthfuls of lime water o; few drops of tho tincturo of myrrh a tumbler of water will aweaton an unpleasant breath, and a small pleco'of orris root, if chewed, wm glvo a violet odor to tho breath.
