EARLIEST DAYS OP THE USE OF HARVESTING MACHINES. THE LOCATION OP THE FACTORY SITE DATES BACK EVEN TURTHER, TO THE FIRST SETTLEMENT OF
THIS PORTION OF THE COUNTRY. ONE OF THE EARLY HUNTERS, TRAPPERS AND INDIAN FIGHTERS, SIMON KENTON BY NAME, LOOATBD HERE AND BUILT A LOG
GRIST-MILL. TO THE GRINDING OF GRIST WERE AFTERWARDS ADDED A SAWMILL AND AN IMPLEMENT FACTORY, WHERE WERE MADE FIRST, SMALL FARMING
TOOLS; LATER, WAGONS AND LARGER FARMING IMPLEMENTS, AND IN 1849 WAS BEGUN THE MANUFACTURE OF REAPERS AND MOWRS.
THE PICTURE, MADE FROM A PHOTOGRAPH OF THESE GREAT WORKS, TAKEN FROM A TOWER ERECTED ESPECIALLY FOR THE PURPOSE, AND WHICH PICTURE MAY

Champion. It has, besides, great strength and durability, is light in draft and easy to operate,
and excels in divices for preventing wear and for taking it up and renewing the life of the ma
chine when it does occur. The success of the Champion Draw Cut Mower has been phenom
enal; that the machine has deserved this' success, every purchaser will testify. The draw cut
mower is without doubt the most durable and powerful mower which has ever been made in the
Champion factories. Those, only, who are familiar with the old Champion rear cut mowers
made many years ago, which lasted the owners for a generation, can fully appreciate this state
ment. The Champion draw cut has the strength and cutting power of ihz old rear cut with all
the convenience of the modern front cut, and, besides, important adjustments not found on any
other mower.
CHAMPION HAY RAKES
THE CHAMPION lock-lever self- dump rake.
With this machine a boy may rake the heaviest
hay and bunch it with the rake as well as a man.
The foot lever for holding the teeth down may be
locked or not as desired; when locked no effort Is
required to hold the teeth down while gathering,
but simply the weight of the driver's foot will
keep them in position. It is a simple device. It
cannot get out of order.
