on the charge of violating section 172
of the Revised Stniutes of the United
States, whieh provides that nn one
holding the ofllee of United States
senator shall receive any compensation
whatever for nay work done to fur-
'ther matters relating to the work of
the government in any department.
Senator Mitchell was indicted on this
charge February fr receiving foes
from Frederick" A. Ktibs for expediting
70 timber claims.
