the Interests of tho ' growers. ',Mr.
Kyle, under direction , o'f thq board,
left Sunday morning'' for Pugot Sound
and other, places to learn the condi
tions of tho trade, and find openings
for the large Salem crop. Tho union
proposes to light for a better mnrket,
and will make arrangements to ship
largo tpjantltles of berries direct to
the trade In the larger centers 'of dis
tribution. A committee on tho good
of the union was appointed, consisting
of W. 0 Price, drover Hemsley and
H. Bartholomew.
The members propose to adopt a
plan similar to other unions, of pro
tecting their members, and dealing
only with firms that sell the Union
product. The price for admission to
membership was reduced1 to $1.00, and
the members are all to canvass their
neighbors and get them Into the
Union. There was strong expression
of sentiment against selling berries
to the Salem cannery at three cents
a pound. At this price the grower
cannot make any money, and tho
Union proposes to ship elsewhere if
they have to take that price.
