away the lG-year-old daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. P. C. Murray, of Pratum, on
tho 5th of December, last, had his
preliminary hearing yesterday af tor-1
noon In tho JubUco court. Tho girl In
tho caso and hor parents woro about
the only wltneflBOS placed on tho
stand. Tho girl tostlflod that she had
been engaged to bo mnrrlod to the
young man, who Is but 19 yonrs of
age, and that sho had told him Bho
was about 17 years old; that he had
come to seo her often, nnd on the day
named ho had called during the nb
sonce of tho paronts, and they had
decided to go awny and get married.
Accordingly thoy had gone to Hose
burg, nnd, meeting with somo dlfflcul
ty, thoy had gone to Oregon City,
whore thoy hnd remained until com
Ing to Woodburn early this week,
when tho boy was arrested, and she
had gun? on homo. She stated in a
simple and unaffected mannor that
they had lived as husband and wife
