department Saturday that tho Presi
dent hao appointed V. Smith Woolcy,
of Pocatollo, as assaycr of tho Boise
assay omce. Tho appointment has
been held up, awaiting tho receipt of
tho resignation of J. W. Cunningham,
tho present assayer, and a man whoso
contlnuauco in offlco was desired by
tho director of tho mint, becauao of
his exceptional ability. Cunningham
will retire as soon as Woolcy gives
bond, and the samo 1b approved.
Wooloy, as previously stated In
theso dispatches, Is recommended by
Senator Hoyburn, and tho new Repub
lican machine In Idaho, which in
cludes Congressman French, Judge
Stanrod and othors.

nouncement of Wooley's Indorsement,
on account of his being a Mormon, It
