ufacturing establishments In Salem
mid Stayton depending on tho Sam
tlnm ditch and Mill crock for their
power are out of business, until re
pairs enn bo mndo. Tho dam In tho
Snutlam Is just nbovo Stayton, and
consist ot cribs placed about CO foot
apart, with logs and brush filling in
itho spaces between tho cribs. Tho
second section of CO feet from the,
Marlon county side was blown out,
and tho logs forming that section
woro blown to pieces, nnd ono log.

repontly cleaned up, nnd Mr. Babcock
oxpectod no more troublo with tho
water powor this summer. Of course,
no ono expected that tho dam would
bo blown out, nnd such a contingency
was not nnd could not bo provided
for. Near tho ond of tho dam a sack
was found In which tho dynnmlto had
been carried to tho dam, and n piece
of fuse nnd a stick of dynnmlto woro
also found, where tho miscreants who
had done tho work had left It.
