Tho Salem Fruit Growors Union ou

growors dorlvod substantial bonofits
from co-operation.
Tho rotall market was kopt from
being glutted, and tho prico at tho

mado by tho shippers and tho cannory
was that there was not Btrawborrlos
and" other smnll fruits onough to
meet tho domand. Strawborrlou not
ted tho growors $100 to $300 por acre.
The use of artlflclnl fertilizers has
bean begun, and largor profits will bo
mado this yoar than over boforo. Near
ly overy membor of tho union hns boen
able to sell all tho plants that ho
could be raised, some dorivlngt largor
profits from plants than from fruit.
The retiring board of olllcors, who
handled the union the first yoar, made
a splendid showing:, and If their suc
cessors do as well, with the splendid
start they have, there will bo no cause
for complaint.
Tils attendance at the annual meet
ing Saturday was Inrg) and Inspiring
to all present. The members ox
pressed n determination to stand sol
idly by the organisation', nnd an effort
will be made by the next meotlng to
tulil to the membership all growers of
small frutU who aro not already in
the union. An effort will be mndo to
organize tho growers of larger fruits,
such as poarhet apples and pears and
got for them the boiuflt of co-ojem-
tlon, nnd an Improved product that
will double tho prlco of the product
The Proceedings.

Matthews said he favored that plan,
nnd believed that co-oporatlon on that
line wns feasible Mr. Thlelson said

have boon possible without W. C.

A. Verclor favored using one or two
cars of bonis to advertise the Salem
Union.
S. H. Hatch favored that plan of
sending choice fruit out In small ship

J. R. Shspard was Impreased with
the respect which this organisation
had Inspired among shipper aad can-

That's the proper propor
tion of animal and mineral
matter in the bones of a
healthy child thirty-seven
per cent animal and sixty
three per cent, mineral. The
bones of the average rickety
child show about seventy-nine
per cent, animal and twenty
one per cent mineral matter.
Its this lack of sufficient
mineral matter in the bones
that makes a child have rick
ets. Deformities of the chest
and head.bent legs and curved
spine are some of the results
of rickets.
i The disease is one of early
life, and the first symptoms
are shown in the digestive
organs. Usually the appetite is
poor and the child grows dull
and fretful. There are pains
in the limbs and joints. The
pulse beats quicker and the
veins become slightly swollen;
gradually the whole body be
comes tender and the face
shows signs of waste, depres
sion and weariness. Then
the action of the disease be
gins in the bones. The legs
are first to show the effects
when they fail to support the
child properly. As a matter
of fact, the bones cease to
grow at this stage. Proper
nourishment for the whole
body, and particularly for the
bones, is the best possible
treatment; in fact, it is the
only treatment.
Scott's Emulsion is there
fore the natural remedy for
rickets, as pure cod liver oil
is the most effective of all
remedies for this disease.
The hypophosphitcs of lime
and soda contained in Scott's
Emulsion feed the bones and
furnish them with the means
to grow properly. It also
helps the digestion and pro
vides nourishment that can
not be secured so well in any
other way. It quickly enables
the rickety child to make up
lost ground, and insures a
healthy, natural growth. Be
ing as palatable as cream and
more nutritious, Scott's Emul
sion is easil) accepted by the
most delicate stomach.
These cl.'im are not made off-hand.
We know from nearly thirty yean contact
ith such rates that Scott's Kinulilon will
do just what we say it will do. We will bo
glad to send you a sample free so that you
can judge for yourself.

Tho union Is stronaer than ever,
and the acreage of strawberries and

Is becoming n recognised center for

Stockholders who have not paid
thnlr assessments can leave them at
The Journal olllce. or pay them to Sec
retary Roynolds. The work of the
union will be pushed as never before,
and the now ofiloers ask the hearty
