er the drinker Immune from typhoid
fever. Whether this deduction is
scientifically correct Is a matter for
ascertainment as a result of future ex
periments. In any event, the value of
the lemon, already regarded as highest
among citrus fruits, will be greatly en
hnnced by this discovery.
Nearly thirty years ago the present
Chicago assistant commissioner of
health In a reixirt on the cholera epi
demic of 1873 prepared for the super
vising surgeon of the United Stntcs
mnrlne hospital service, stated that
