W. 15. Morris, of Vancouver, Wash
ington, who was ncoldontally shot

gon bandit, In Washington, last sum
mer, was In Salem today. Mr. Morris
was shot In tho loft log, noar tho
thigh, by members of auothor posso,
that was alsosoarchlng for Tracy, nnd
Jjy whom Morris was mistaken for tho
iugltlvo convict. Tho mombcrs of that
jjosso woro Doputy Sheriff Lou Wag
nor, of Portland; Waltor Lyon and J.

both of this city. Whllo in Salem to
day Mr. Morris called on Prlvato Soc-
xetary Lyon, at tho governor's offlco,
and also had an Interview with Doputy
Shorlff Slclpton, whoso sorvlcos and
assistance ho onllstod In an effort that
ho will malco to have tho state of Oro-
gon refund hlra tho amount of money
ho waB obliged to oxpond for hospital
and modlcal bills as a consequenco of
tho Injury.
Morris Is a painter by occupation,
and lives at Vancouver. Tho scono of
tho accidental shooting wns nlno mllos
from Vancouver, The treatment of
tho Injury caused Morris to be confined
io uio Hospital for about 14 wooks.

dent, Morris will alwayB bo a cripple.
Tho Injured limb is crlpojcd nnd de

Its natural longth. Morris says ho had
to pay n hospital bill of $100 and o
further bill of $200 for tho sorvlcos of
a physician. In addition to thoso ox-,

up all summer, and could not follow
his trado. For theso reasons ho thinks
it would not bo asking too much of the
stato of Orogon to refund to him at
least a part of tho money ho has boon
compelled to expend bocauso of tho

ing In the pursuit of Tracy, Mr. Mor
ris will bo able to rosumo his painting,
and has tho pluck 'nnd energy nbout
him to fully mako up for tho enforced
vacation he has boon obliged to tnko.

Mrs. C. Cunningham, a well-known
Southorn Orogon woman, died very
suddenly at the family homo In Ash
land Wodnosday evening, nged G7
years and 27 days. Only 1G minutes
prior to her death had Bho complained
