Frank MrDonald, a local dope fiend,
was today arrested for the larceny of
76 feet of wire cable from the Capital

been before the police court for simi
lar work before, and on two occasions
whs committed to the Insane asylum.

Damon Goes
To Asylum
A. H. Damon, the expressman, and
a well-known local character, was this
morning committed to the insane asy
lum. The Damons have been causing
the police officers all kinds of trouble
for some time by their domestic differ
ences, and the arrest of the husband,
who has experienced a varied career
of three score years, resulted last
night from one of their iierennlal
scraps. He was examined this morn
ing and committed.

turned from Lewiston, Idaho, where
ho has been for several months. He
says that the people of that section

Douglas County Forwards the First of
the 1902 Crop.
Roseburg. Or.. Oct. 10. Mr. C. Gas
ley. the well-known prune buyer, is In
Itoseburg and vicinity making pur
chases of the local crop. He has al
ready bought 30 carloads of prunes In
this county this season. He made the
first shipment of 1902 prunes from
this state. The first car was started
itnst from Kiddles oh September 30th,
and another car was forwarded from
Ruckles on the following day. This is
about two weeks earlier than the first
consignments of former years. Mr.
Gazley's first estimate of the crop was
about o per cent of the normal, hut
since the drying, is largely completed
he finds the crop larger than antici
pated, and will perhaps reach 76 per
rent of last year's output. The quali
ty this season Is excellent, and this
will, to a considerable extent, compen
sate for the lesser yield. Having com
pleted his purchases south of here,
Mr. Gazley is now making northward,
