1900 from tho consumption In 1890,
which Is a hopeful sign that the advo
cates of temperanco ought not to Ioso
sight of In their consideration of tho
temperanco problem.

ther that in tho decade thero wns an
increase of GO por cent In malt liquors
against tho increaso of 80 por cont in
tho decado from 1880 to 1800, Which Is

B. Durrows, Jr., of Walla Walla, early
Saturday morning, near Seattle, have
boon received. It seems that Mr. Dur
rows was taking a crulso on Pugot
Sound with his wlfo and baby, as tho
guest of Oeorgo U. Plpor on tho yacht
Honrlettta, which waa nnchorcd off
Al Kl Point Friday night. Tho yacht
was lu about six fathoms of water, and
was about 400 yards from tho shore.
All members of tho party retired at
11:30, with tho exception of Messrs.
Piper and Durrows, who remained up
until about midnight. Mr. DurrowB'
last words wero ones of thanks for tho
trip, which ho had enjoyed, coming,
ns ho did, from tho boat and dust of
tho Hastorn Washington ally. Ho was
hoard during tho night In his cabin,
but whon Mr. Plpor wont to wnko him
nt 8 o'clock In tho morning ho waH
not Uioro. On Investigation it was
found that ho was not on tho yacht,
