there la a reason for this, and that It
Is a mutter of public Interest. Lot us
try to ascertain the cans.
It Is not creditable that the Capital
City neglect the national game, to the
extent that thero Is not even a second
or third-class nine. It Is more dlsired-

cause tho public schools do not carry
their classes of boys and girls along to

Mrs. T. L. Davidson Passed
Away Wednesday Evening
Mary Susan, wife of Judge T. L.
Davidson, or Mornlngsido, died at 0:30
o'clock Wednesday evening, at tho
home of hor sister, Mrs. John II, Wil
son, nt No -J62 Stato street. Death
came nftor an olght-weoks' serious 111
nps. resulting from a complication of
bowel and stomach troubles. During
the last four weeks uf her Illness Mrs.
Davidson was faithfully attended by
Mrs HI la I), McDowell, of Han Jose,
nnd Mrs. S. V. tlnrrlgues, of Heppner,
nnd Mrs. J. II. Wilson, of this city,
three of her sisters.
The deceased was a native, of Shel
by county, Missouri, where she was
born March 21, 1851, nnd nt her death
was 51 years, 1 months and 9 days of
age She emigrated to Oregon In
181, 1 with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. S.
D. Melson, and located In Marlon
county. On July C, 1800, she wns
married to Judge T. L. Davidson, and
the union was blessed with three
children, only one of whom, a son, T.
L. Davidson, Jr., survives the mother.
After Iht marrlago Mrs. Davidson and
her husband lived on their largo and
finely Improved farm at Mornlngsido,
until her lllnoss necessitated bringing
her to Salem for treatment.. Sho was
a devout Christian woman, and was
for lo years a mombor of tho Metho
dist Kplscopnl church. About throo
months ago sho was takon to Califor
nia, lu hopes that a change or climate
and scenery might prove benoflclal to
her health, but sho failed to Improve,
nnd wns brought homo. Although she
suffered Intonsa pain during hor last
illness, she bore nit with remarkable
fortitude
In addition to tho boroaved husband
nud son, the decensed leaves five sis
ters and one biother, viz: Mrs. L. II.
Plants, Milton, Ore.; Mrs. T. II. Wil
son, Palo Alto, Cut.; Mrs. S. P. Oarrl
gues, Heppner, Or.; Mrs. Kiln Mc
Dowell. 8an Jose, Cat.; Mrs. J. II. Wil
son and J. A. Melson, both of this

Funeral services will bo conducted
at the home of Mrs. Wilson, on Kant
State stiect, Ht 2 o'clock Friday after
