SPRAYING
Reports as to Strawberry
Crop.
Tho Oregon experiment station at
Corvallls Is sending out bulletin GO,
entitled "Tho Codling Moth and Lato
Spraying hi Orogon," by A. B. Cord
ley. Evory npplo growor in Hood Riv
er should send for a copy. Mr. Cord
toy sums up his conclusions In tho fol
lowing paragraphs:
Tho codling moth is our most serious
applo poet.
It Is likoly to bo a soilous post whor
ovor tho apple can be successfully
grown. Apple-growing roglons now
free from it are not likely to long re
main so.
Tho average porcontngo of fruit In
jured by tho codling moth Is not
greater In Orogon than In other apple
growing roglons.
There aro but two annual broods
not three or four, ns stated. Owing to
Irregularity of development theso
broods ovorlnp so that tho larvae may
bo found in fruit from tho time
tho first wormy applos occur In tho
spring until after the fruit is gathered.
'J Tho eggs ate deposited principally
on the surface of tho fruit, and uot In
the calyx. At Corvallls egg-laying
does not bogln until towards the cud
of Juno. It piobably does not occur
when tho ovenlng temperature falls
much below GO degrees, nnd Is prob
ably most actlvo whon such tempera
turo Is abovo 70-80 degrees.
Probably a considerable! number of
lnrvno pupate under clods and rub
bish on tho ground.
Birds nio the most effective uatuial
aids in controlling tho codling moth.
No boneflt Is to bo oxpoctod from tho
Introduction of forolgn birds, or from
artificial use of fungous or bactorlal
dlscasos.
Spraying with some of tho nrsenitcs
Is the most practical method of pro
tecting frttjt from the codling moth, it
is not only practical but It Is nocotfsnry
to spruy for tho socond brood. Per
sistent intelligent spraying should
give 86-00 per cent of fruit free from
worms. Our host orchnrdlsts do ovou
bettor.
Clean, smooth trees, clean cultiva
tion, shoop or hogs In tho orchard,
sci eons over tho doors nnd windows
of storo looms, nnd banding the troos
nro ofllclont supplements to spinyjng.

tho lower limbs were nil found, nnd In
a decomposed stato. It Is more than
probable that the body had been

Since there were no circumstances
of a suspicious nature connected with
the finding of the bones, no olllclal ex

New Cure for Their Diseases and In

destructive to life, hoalth and hnppl

tho modlcnl fratornlty. Thoy aro not
confined to tho low and degraded por
tions of humnnlty, as many suppose,
but nro to bo found among tho pure
of honrt, tho lnnocont, tho truly pious
nnd tho wealthy.
Many of them nro transmitted from
paronts to children,' from gonorntlon
to gonorntlon. Thousands of people
suffer untold agony from their ravag
ing effects and moot an early and un
timely death, often ignorant of tho
cnuse. Though transmitted Innocent

ofw onjoy ono will scarcoly direct a
moment's thought to those Important
organs, nnd ut the first unpleasant
symptom good ndvlco, such ns may bo
easily obtained, should be Immediate

Among tho chief nnd most common
diseases aro seminal weakness and
nervous dUnbllltlos, or loss of nurvo
power. Thousands of young mon nnd
mlddlo-ngod men suffer with norvous
dlsonsos for yours nnd may bo Ignor

of cheer and hnpplnoss. When tho
first symptoms of nominal weakness
mnulfost thomsolves the sufforor Is
noticed to become dull and morouo,
nnd is troubled with indigestion,
though tho appetite may remain good.
But tho strength vanishes, nnd tho
patient grows thin. He becomes Indo

mny follow. In time he limy fall Into
Impotoncy totnl loss of sexual pow

mentioned loss of memory, confusion
of Idons, nervous despondency and
general weakness. It needs no mirror,
it reflects itsolf. Tho palo face, tho
simken eyes, the downcast counte
nance, the stooping, nged form nil
serve to announce the victim's
troubles. It seldom kills of Itself, but
opons the gates to other diseases, such
as consumption and diseases of the
heart. The unfortunate cannot sleep.
