had an enjoyable dance In tho Hoi
man building Friday evening, and tho
usual enjoyablo time was reported.'
Tho Woodmen cannot bo discounted
as entertainers, and they did them
selves proud on this occasion. Music

The A. O. U. W. orders of Salem en
Joyed a phenomenal growth hi mem
bership during tho past few weeks, tho
result of a contest between tho Ore
gon and Washington Jurisdictions.
Over 100 membors wcro rccelvod into
tho order hore, and a largo majority
of them wcro prominent young men of
tho city. On Saturday evening, tho
two Salem lodges Joined forces and
tendered tho now membors a recep
tion. An onjoyablo danco program
was provided for thoso fond of that
means of entertainment, whllo others
passed tho evening playing cards. Tho
affair was a pronounced bucccss, as
