JUSTICE
COURT
How Biddy Became a Witness
and Decided the Case.
For the Defendant Who was
Able to Win Her Own
Against able Counsel.
The ordinary legally conducted trial
for justice is a grave matter and should,
and usually does, receivo serious atten
tion from all parties concerned in it,
even to the lookers-on, but tho trial
conducted over aomo alleged stolen bona
Fiiday afternoon in Juatlco O'Donald's
court was without a serious feature,
xcept to the plaintiff and defendant,
the former being Mrs. Jennlo Harding
and the latter Mrd. S. Allin. Mra.
Allin conducted her own case and the
state wbb represented by John Bayne.
The jurora woro, James Batchelor, J. 0.
Brown, J. M. Blglor A. W. Dennis, A.
Oilngar and J. II. Campbell and after
some deliberation roturned a verdict of
not guilty.
Several neighbors were called
ai witnesses and soino conflicting facta
in the testimony heard. Tho pedigree
of tho hens was given and all present
undoubtedly loomed several thinga about
poultry and the capabilities of certain
stock that may prove of valuo. It waa
alleged that four hens wero atolen but
alnco that time, July Oth, two of them
have disappeared and of tho two re
maining ones, n pet called "Biddy" of
Buff Cochin variety, was of especial in
terest to the witnesses, and sho was fed
from the hand of Mra. Allin to provo
her ownership, and alio certainly waa
watched aa alio slowly walked across the
room when called and ate tho wheat out
of tho witnosa' hand. Genoral onjoy-
mont of tho amusing and ridiculous
climaxes and situnttons prevailed, and
the court waa aoveral times compelled to
call for ordor, but tho case, fortunately
waa only a "lion"' trial.
