the Coal Operator' Anoclailon of Al
aba ma is being held hero today. Tho
purpote of both meeting If to draft a
wage teale for the miners, to go into ef
fect at the beginning of the new wage
year, July 1. Each side has its ecalr
ready and an effort is belug made to
reach a common agreement. This
method was adopted for tho first time
Ift't year and proved very successful.
The miners now work upon a sliding
scale, governed by the selling price of
pig Iron. The maximum basis is 55 cents
per ton for coal mining, which is now be
ing paid at most of the mines. Indica
tions are that both sides will be willing
to renew the old wage scale, hut the
miners may aik for an eight hour
day. All indications point to an aiiilc
