Tho disadvantage to tho Democratic;

opinion within its ranks Is that tho
scoffers of a different party faith can
always support their views on any of
tho Issues of tho day by alleged demo,

Perhaps a compensating advantage Is
that it shows tho democracy to be

TO RAISE THE MAINE.
As Tub Journal has given somo of
tho wonderful facts in roforenco to

interested in tho fact that this wonder
ful new diccoery will now bo tucd as a
lever to rnleo tho sunken warship In
Havana harbor.
A few weeks ago mention was made of
tho project to float tho wrick pf tho bat-
tle-thip Maine by tho aid of liquid air,
but tho nmnnir of applying this new
physical agent was not ory clearly do-
sjiibcd. Accoiding to tho proposal of
tho persons who wish to rnUo tho
Maine, they will surround tho wreck
with two rows of ordinary two-inch
plpo, 15 inches apart, closed at tho
loner end, and forced donn into the
alimo and mud as far ns possible, a sort
of double picket fence. Sand bags 20
feet long and 16 inches wido, with eye-
hooks o one ond, will bo strung on the
pipes, mil lowered in pain and stacked
on tho bottom llko two rows of cord-
wood, being only loosely Altai, so that
tin v will pack. Knoli pair will ho con

tho foiccs spreading. This 1 1-foot bat
tlement w III lto within n few feet of tho
ship, but will spread out around tho
ship to make tho requisite room tor tho
builders of tho now hull, and to avoid
scattered wrcokugu. Whim Uio caisson
is completed and has got through set

tween tho two runs of pipes and onor

How quickly Hotspur's wise and witty
retort tears the tragic mantle in which
Gleudowcr stalks, and shows beneath
the seer's robe, the motley of themounte
Uink. Most H-ople would have taken
the Welchuiuu at his word, and called
him hccr, without noting the difference
between to call and to command.
Certain points of comparison are sug
gested between Gleudower'a tragic claim
and the comic claim made in some
ciotts advertisements, "I am a woman.
I know all about woman I understand
woman, and I can cure woman because I
am a woman." The modern Mrs, Hot
spur puts her finger right on the weak
sjKit of that clamorous claim by saying :
"Why if ou can cure woman simply
because ou are a woman, then so can I
and to can any woman." Which very
plainly brings out the common sense
fact that the cure of diseases does not
depend upon being a man or being a
uvman but docs depend upon being a
trained and experienced Muictan.
