THE CONCLUSION
Of the Local Chtistian Science Contro
versySome Points Answered.
Since publishing local reports of Kcv.
Kuntner'n sermon on "Why 1 cannot
bo a Christian Scientist," this ollleo has
received many communications on that
Htibject pro ami con. One letter, a
criticism, was published, and drew forth
NOveralTeplicH, onu of which, written
by Mr. Kantner, waH also published.
Now Htill more coinninnicatioiiB havo
cotno in on both fides, but it would bo
unjust to our readers to further carry
on the controversy. For this reason the
following newspaper report, taken from
tho Jtoston ;i).illy Herald of Juno 8th,
which scorns to answer most of tho
polntH in controversy in an impersonal
manner, will Ik printed to close this
matter up, for tho present at least:
(Prom the Ilnatnn Herald, lime 8.)
Tho First Church of Christ, Scientist,
commodious as it is, was not large
enough to hold tho thousands of visit
ing Christian Scientist who wished last
night to attend tho testimony meeting
which is n weekly feature of tho church
work. Tho meeting was thorefore held
in Tremont Temple, and tho large au
ditorium of that edifice was hcarcely
able to accommodate those who sought
to enter. Every seat was occupied, and
hundreds of persons stood in the aisles
and corners.
Manv romnrkhblo Instances of re
covery from apparently howless illness
through tio instrumentality of Chris
tian Science was related by persons in
in tho congregation, and were listened
to with almost breathless interest. But
perhaps the most dramatic feature of
the evening was an impromptu confes
sion of faith by the congregation in the
distinctive claims of Christian Science,
and also in bevcral nf tho fundamental
principles which are held by other
lilies of Christians. This occurred at
tho closo of the testimonies.
Judirc Septimus J. Hanna, who pre-
uM.-t nvtr tlu meetimr. nddrossed the
concrofiatlon in these werds:
"I would 1k glad to extend this meet
ing, but I think the time has arrived
when we should bring it to a close.
These testimonies could continue all
night, and many of uswould be glad to
hear them, but it is not wiw to prolong
it much longer. Before closing, however,
I will ask those present who know of a

Almost every ono on the main floor,
in tho two galleries, on tho platform,
and in tho choir gallery, promptly stood
tip. When thoy bad resumed their
seats, Judge Hanna said :
"Now, I will nsk those who know
that thoy havo been healed through
simply reading 'Scienco nnd Health with
Key to tho Scriptures' and tho Bible, in
tho light thrown upon it throughout tho
house, to nriso." In responso to this re
quest about three hundred perrons,
scattered throughout the house, arose.
"Our beloved friends of tho churches,
and especially of tho pulpit, some of
them, have been somewhat in the
habit of charging Christian Scientists
with being a Godless people," Judge
Hanna said: "Will those who believo
in God as tho only saving power in the'r
lives, plcnso rise?"
Promptly everybody stood up.
"Our good friends have also charged
us with being a Christies? people, wfth
denying Jesus Christ. How many aro
there here Christian Scientists who
believo in Jesus Christ, nbotutcly and
unqualifiedly?"
So far as tho reporter could see, not
more than a dozen persons remained
i-eated.
,?Wo are also sometimes charged with
being a prayerlcss people. Will thoso
who believe in prayer, and in tho power
and efficacy of prayer to heal tho Bick as
well as to destroy sin, pleao rise?"
In responso to this request, nlnioft
the entire audience roe.
"I will ask thoso who believe that
prayer, in the highest and best sense of
the word, is the only healing elllcacy, to
rise,"
There was tho same general responso
to this request.
Tho meeting opened with a brief re
ligious service. On the platform with
the presiding ofllcer, were about fifty of
tho First Mcmliers of tho Mother
church, who constitute tho governing
body of tho congregation. Tho Countess
of Dtinmoro nnd her daughter, Lady
.Mildred, also occupied seats on the
platform.
Tho method of procedure in the giving
of testimonies was simple. Judge
Hanna opened this portion of the even
ing's exercises with a few remarks.
"I will," ho said, "detain you with
hut ono word, and then we shall Imj
pleased to hear from the Held and to
receivo testimonies as to what Christian
Science has done tor you nnd can do for
the whole world. May I ask you to
speak distinctly, so that you may bo
easily heard. And, inasmuch as there
are many visiting Scientists present, we
would bo glad If you would make your
remarks short and concise, ho as to give
an opportunity to as many as possible to
speak.
"I will say that wo havo heard, of
course, of the return to her homo of our
lcloved Leader and Mother, refreshed
nnd strengthened as tho result
of her vtBit to her church. We aro all
glad to know that she had a most enjoy
able occasion with us, ono which sho
will never forget, and certainly ono
which we shall never forget. I might
nlso remark hero that strango as it may
seem to some, although sho arrived in
Boston during tho business hourM of
Monday, and remained in Boston all
day yesterday, site was not arrested.
Laughter nnd npplause. I thiftk tho
world will come to understand somo
time, and that very soon, that eternal
Truth and its representatives cannot lw
arrested. (Applause.) Tho meeting Is
now in your hands."
Somo thirty or forty persons arose in
succession and spoko. Most of tho tes
timonies lasted but a couplo of minutes.
A few of tho sjKjakers occupied (Ivo or
ten minutes. Some of tho exigences
related wero very interesting. A con
vincing air of sincerity marked all of
them, tho voices of several indicating
deep emotion.
Among the allllctlons designated as
having been relieved by the power of
Christian Science wore spinal men
ingitis, cancer, consumption, gouty de
posits in tho hand, the liquor habit, tie
fective vision, nervous prostration, ami
numerous other troubles.
It la better .o preserve; health than

A Cheerful Look
MakesaDish a Feast
"Cheerful looks" depend
just as much upon physical
well-being as upon natural
disposition and temperament.
If the blood is disordered,
the brain is starved, and no
"dish is a feast' for the
reason that the vitalizing
elements do not reach the
proper spot,
A step in the right direction is
to purify tho body by tho use of a
natural remedy. Hood's Sarsaparllla
is Nature's remedy. It acts "upon tho
blood, and whether tho scat of the dis
order is brain, stomach, liver or kid

medicine is equally sure and successful.
It never disappoint.
Diphtheria - " My little nephew was

tiou of this machine the book remains
stationary. Only the typewriter moves,
skipping across tho page at every stroke
of the key anil down the page on two
slender rails by the simple touch of a
lever. This ollleo utility requires no ad.
dltionnl skill or experience in its opera
tion and writes a legible and'everlastlng
record on the leaves of a bound book of
any size. It makes an absolutely in
deliblo record which cannot bo tampered
with by means of acids, will not fade
from exposure, nor blur when moist
ened or rubbed. Several carbon copies
can be made if desired at tho samo time
that the record is Iwing made in tho
book. It more than doubles tho capac

a space economizer it is a great money
saver, since It reuuires nn average of

Tho savinir thus effected in the " cost of

of no inconsiderable importance, while
tho convenience of having records in
