The bargain house of Salem,
Carrying Concealed Weapons.
Sunday erenlnz a man giving tbe
name of C E. Rose, applied at police
headquarters for a bed for tbe night.
In tearcblng tbe man's clotbes a
small weapon was found, that very
closely resembles an old fashioned
"pepper-box." Tbe weapon Is about
six incbes long and contains eight
small cartridges. The fire piece bas a
handle larger than the averaze re
volver but differs from the modern
pocket fire-arm in that it Is minus
the barrell through which the pro
jectile Is sent. It is considered a very
efficient weapon and is almost invari
ably found in tbe equipage of a full
fledged "knight of the road,"
As a result of this discovery, a
cbargeof carrying concealed wearxzs
was preferred against tbe man. From
letters found upon his person it de
veloped that the .man s correct name
is not Rose bat 1. F. McNsmara and
that be was formerly located at Kes
wick Cal.
McNamara was arraigned before
Recorder Edes tbis afternoon and
fined 10 and cots. :Not Delng able
to pay the fine the man went to Jail.
