Clackamas County Flax.
L. D. Mumpower and M. Ricbhoff,
farmers, living about six mllc3 from
Oregon City, have marketed their llax
crop by stowing It In a box car at
Oregon City, for shipment to this
city, according to their contract with
the Woman's Flax Association. The
flax was pulled two weeks ago, but
It seems to have dried very little, and
It js more than twice as heavy as the
same bulk of hay. The stuff is bound
In sheaves like grain, and is shipped
In that form. From an acre Mr.
Mumpower harvested two and one-
half tons of the flax, and from a half
acre Mr. Ricbhoff obtained a good
ton, the stalks varying from 30 to 44
Inches in length. These growers are
not particularly enthusiastic for the
industry. They say If the crop does
not bring at least $15 a ton It Is a
losing business to raise it. The
price Is said to depend on the IcngQi
of stalk, and runs from $5 to $25 a
ton.
