man of the Board of Edudation and
President of theE. M. Walte Printing
too. Mr. Walte was also president 01
the Floral society and of tlie Decora
tive Union, ncwasan Odd Fellow,
and belonged to many social societies
of the city.
Mr. Walte was a native of Spring-
Held. Mass.. and came "around thea
horn" io an early day, seetllng In Sa
lem "In the fifties.-' He was about
70 years of age, and although he has
not suffered any poor health, he hasg
for some years been losing strength.
He has held many positions of trust
and honor, and was just oeiore uia
death feeling better than he had for
sevoral years.
The last act of his life was
teristlc of the entire character of the
man. He was a public spirited to a
rare degree. lie was always willing
to oblldgc others even at great sacri
flee.
There Is little doubt, but that ex-
