MORE BASE BALL NEWS.
Portl-ind Monogronu Will Represent
Oregon In Examiner Tournament.
Sunday's San Francisco Examiner
contains the following concerning
It bas-cball tournament which is of
particular Interest to our local team:
The protect of the Monograms of
Portland against the Albany Colts has
ncen decided in nivor or sonograms.
More than two dozen allldavlt.s were
Hied by Portland's backers to prove
that Pitcher Fleming of the Colts was
over 18 years and six months old.
a j iiiougn me uoiis lougur nam lotus
1 prove tho fact, tho evidence that
turned tho scale to the Monogram's
ruyor was a icii-taio tombstone, it
was proven that Fleming was a twin
to a sister who had since died. The
grave was located and carved on the
slab was the evidence that had she
lived she would have been over 20
years of age. That settled the con
troversy over tho ago of Fleming.
Now that tho point has lccn decided
there should be no lll-feellng. De
ciding In tho Monogram's favor has
loft tncOrctfonclianinlonsliln still un
settled, ror mere still remain two or
the Colts' victims the Monograms
and the Salem, Oregon Baseball Club.
These clubs will light it out next
week.
Tho Examiner Is mistaken Instat
ing that the Salem Lovcques and the
Portland Monograms "will light It out
ilt Portland next week." Immediately
after the game with the Albany Colts
several weeks since, lu which the
Lovcques were worsted, tho team dis
banded for tho season, not thinking it
politic to remain organized and to
keep In training all summer. At tho
present time scarcely one-half of the
members of the team are In tho city,
a great many being cither at tho coast
or -In the mountains, and It would
be almost Impossible to get tho team
together In so short a time. However,
we feel quite confident that had the
Lovcques been notified several weeks
since, thus giving them time to pre
pare for the contest, our local toiim
would have represented Oregon in the
championship games. As it Is, "since
tho Lovcques will not play the Mono
grams, It Is likely tho Portland team
will be the champions from Oregon In
tho tournament.
Tho whole tournament glyes evi
dence of improper managementon the
purt of its managers.

For 40 years I have spent what I

It Is unsafe to do so any longer. The
first note was part payment for three

three represent money loaned to men

It was reluctantly loaned, because I
