Hendricks, or tho state reform school, yesterday submitted to the bjard of trustees his report or the conduct or that Institu tion ror the second quarter of the cur rent year. It Is as rollews: POPULATION. We have 217 boys on the rolls, there being at the close or the quarter, J une 30th, 123 in the school. We hnd at the beginning or last quarter I2fl boys. Received during the quarter 17, or which 13 were by ilrst commitment and four returned from parole. . We paroled nineteen boys during the quarter and one died, leaving us on June 30th, as stated berorc, 123 boys. Henceforth the number out on parole will continually grow propor tionately larger than the number in school. The paroled boys aro gener ally doing well. FINANCIAL. We expended during the quarter rrom tho general fund 81,000.07, and from the Improvement fund 82,030.00. There have been expended by the penitentiary so far $1,392.20 of the up- nronrlatlon of $.,000. The labor Is being performed by convicts, using Marlon county's lock crusher in mak ing the toad material. Of the money tints far expended some 8100 have been applied upon countv roads run ning through state lands, besides con siders able labor contributed by the different Institutions. At 4 o'clock Wednesday afternoon before Recorder Edcs began the trial or Arthur Townscnd charged with .eduction, the complaining witness being Maude Wttguon, or North Sa lem. The court room Was cleared of all persons except principals and wit nesses In the case and members of the press. Tho state was represented by Acting Dlhtrk't Attorney J. II. Mc Nnry, assisted by W. II. Holmes. Tow use nd employed Win. Kaiser as attorney. The principal witness for tho state was the girl who was placed upon ire stand ami inauu a suite ment. Several letters wero also Intro duced as evidence. At 0 o'clock an adjournment was taken for supper and at 7:30 court was again called and tho counsel ror state and defend ant began their arguments. At 10 o'clock Recorder Edcs announced ho would take tho matter under advlso ment until 10 a. in. today when ho discharged the defendant.
