, we i -j ANOTHER COLLEGE PRESIDENT Finds in Maine's Celery Compound the Greatest of All Remedies. President Charles Dole Is nob the first great college president or great educator who has been outspoken In praise of Pnino's celery compound. The detailed and convincing testi monial of President Cook of the National Teachers' Association, Is fresh in tho public mind. Ono of tho foremost educators In America, Principal L. L. Camp of the Dwlght School, New Haven, has called Paine's celery compound the greatest Invlgorator In existence. Such men ns State Treasurer Colvln of Now York, Mr. Carlisle's private secretary, Mayor McShane of Mont real, Rev. Fr. Ouellet' Commodore Howell, cx-MlnlBter to Austria, John ' M. Francis, Edmund Russell, and a host of othors -whoso character and learning aro recognized by tho world, have publicly stated that when they wore sick it was Paine's celery com pound that made them well. Thousands of equally responsible, though perhaps less widely known, men and women, whoso word In their own cities and towns is as good as the best in tho land, have testified to tho merits of this, the greatest of all remedies. Enough consistent, trustworthy A WOMAN'S LETTER. Urging Consideration or Seldom Dis cussed Subjects. The leading magazines are very generally dovoting n great deal of space to biographies of cmlnont men who have passed out of life's arena. Each one, from Napoleon and George Washington down, has' Tecelved hjs share of recognition. TJ(4' laB't, and by no means tho least, .under dIscusT slon, is Abraham Lincoln, surely the most deserving of all. Napoleon was great, but not in so worthy away. So al8o;was Washington. But tho latter is not so.dosorvlng of eulogy as Lincoln. Washington arose to meet a crisis, while Lincoln tnado his own. Washington, for all his support of freedom, was at heart an aristocrat, in many ways. He was brought up in the faith, and there were many of Us customs to which he always adhered. Lincoln was a child from tho people, and when grown was a man for the peoplo, were they rich or poor, black or white. There was no circumstance and no issue that he would not face. Past events worried him but little. It was for future welfare and good that he labored, and living issues that ho favored, nor wasthero tho slightest shrinking from any. Recently one of our most noted publlo men cvloglzed Lincoln at great length, but that same man has not the courage to openly advocate tho principles of Lincoln. Here la the key-note of many failures. Many of ua will discuss some long past event or some treat man and debate certain questions and ad vocate certain principles, but when It comes down to exercising real grit and boldly taking a stand upon any lm portant iu of today, we are not In evidence. Our actions are very much on the same- principle of our show of patriotism on the Fourth of July. On that day there Is a great display of patriotic fervor the next day it has greatly diminished, and the next there's none of it to bo found the last .firecracker has been exploded. The times and the people, in order testimony, always of the highest cnaractcr, is touity in every one's ', possession to convince any doubter if one exists of the remarkable power of Palno's celery compound to make the sick well again. President Dole was born in 1813. Ho graduated from Norwich Univer sity in tho class oy8G0, and became professor of political science in tho unlveslty. In 1803 ho was unani mously elected president, to succeed ox-Sccrctary of State Hon. George Nichols. Ho has held, as tho nubile good required, nearly all tho public ofllces In tho gift of his townsmen. In a recent letter, ho says: "I have used Palno's celery com pound for loveral years, and Had It an excellent remedy for nervous exhaus tion, especially that caused by long continued mental work." Tho uso of Paine's celery compound IS soon followed by an increase in the quantity of active, ruddy blood, quick In its rounds. Dyspepsia, nouralgla, and rhouma tism are routed from tho body. Dis eases duo to deranged, under-fed nervous tissues aro rapidly cured, and good spirits, hopefulness, and an eag erness to got well take tho place of to preserve truly American customs and characteristics, demand more de cision of character, earnestness of purpose and independence of action. Wo need not to rely so much upon tho opinions, wishes or dictates of others as upon our own convictions of what is necessary and right. Wo can't please all. Let us not pay so much heed to what Is called public opinion In Important matters. Lot us not seek to hldo our own short coming under a cloak of praise of the noblo attainments of someone else. Had Lincoln listened to dissenting voices would ho havo gained his noble object? Calmly indifferent to whether nil were pleased or not, ho pursued energetically, the course which he was convinced was the correct one. And biassed is the name of Lincoln! The question arises; is it advisable to devote so much time and spaco to thoso who are not now among the strugglera. It'is advanced that their example is an incentive to thoso who read of their deeds. But do some not need to listen to a discussion of cer tain principles of honor and wisdom In order to appreciate tho endeavors, trials and successes ;of men of the past? Methinks I hear some women re mark that if tho wouien could havo a finger in tho political pie, they would step boldly forth and outline and Insist in the adoption of plans where by It might bo greatly improved In quality. Some of you would, my dears; and some of you wonld be just as much in need of "sand" and backbone" as your brothers. There nro all sorts of men, and the assortment of women is fully as varied. Some of you would mako good politicians. (Please accent tho first word'good," in that phrase.) I know of at least one such. Sho tin' derstands every question of the times, Nothing new arises that she does not thoroughly Inform herself regarding both sides of it; then she forms her own opinions without masculine aid. And when this Is done, she is ready liiolntip.linlv. low snlrltw. morose temper and tho fear of approaching calamity, that arc tho shadows of a run-down nervous system. Ncrvc-tlrcd, despondent, enfeebled persons again enjoy living after their feeble, shrunken nerves havo been red by a grand restorative like Palno's celery compound. Sleeplessness, usually duo to an ab normally excited, overworked, but unded-fed brain, vanishes with the coming of a rich tide of nourishing blood. Paine's Celery compound purities the blood, restores tho nervous system with energy, and hurries along tho replacing of worn-out, diseased parts, by healthy, active tissues. Every city has men and women -who pralso Palno's celery compound In their homes, talk about it to their uclghors, and rely on It In all cases of threatened or actual sickness. All persons who keep nbreast with tho achievements of tho day know tho remarkable strongthlng cITccts raino's celery componna can bring about where tho brain or nerves need refreshing, restoring, and regulating. Thousands of persons have boon con vinced of tho power of Palno's celery compound to make them strong and well. for an argument with any man, and sho never loses her temper while so engaged. Sho Is not a "now woman," and she dots not tako "long steps" in any respect. Fact Is, sho Is too small, for she weighs only 05 pounds. Sho has four children, and docs all her own housework nnd sowing. She Is distinctively feminine, and ono reason why sho accomplishes so much Is that sho does not spend hours denouncing mistaken or unwise men and women. Somo of us in fact, many have much to leurn. both about ourselves and others. One of the highest attain ments nossiblo is to tnorougniy unaer- stand oneself. Wo seo somo ono com mit somo foolish or criminal act, ana we denounco him, whllo at the same t.lniA wo nro icrnorant of tho circum stances which caused him to commit the deed, and don't know what we'd do oursolves in a similar position. There aro serious questions wniciv ail of us must not shrink to con front, embracing many features, and somo day soon we'll consider somo of them. Let us ao so Draveiy, whii oiuy the thought that there is tho princi ple of duty Involved. Makion. Makes the Blood Pure This ia the secret of the cures by Hood's Sarsaparilla.
