Portlaud on tho 2:20 local Sunday
afternoon whero ho Joined Chandler
Bloom of Albany. These two gontlo
mou loft tho metropolis last ovenlng
via. tho Union Pacific for their old
homo at Grampian, Pennsylvania,
where Mr. Davis will reside with his
parents in the future. After a visit of
sevoral months among old friends Mr.
Bloom will roturn to Albany. Mr.
Davis has lived In Salem for three
years, during which rlmo ho was em
ployed by tho Salem Motor Railway
company He has always been highly
esteemed by his employers and Las
made numerous frionds during his stay
here, all of whom regret seeing blm
removo from tholr midst.

years.
Deceased was a relict of John Pugh
uud a daughter of "Undo" Chfis. Clag-
gott, of this city, and tho mother of
Mrs. Eugene Brlstow, Charles., John
and Doll Pugh.
The funeral was hold at 1 p. m. Sun
day at the rosldenco of her sou, and
tho remains were Interred In tho Clag
gott cemetery near that place.

Ho was hurt at a point within four
nillon of tho mines, by tho overturning
of a sloigh loaded with a heavy piece
of machinery,
Dr. R. C. Hunter of Staytou, was
called and met the In In red man at
Gates, reaching tliero from Stayton by
team last night at 11 p. in. He dressed
his wounds, which consisted of dislo
cation of tho left elbow and fracture of
tho radius. Ho was badly bruised and
had a narrow escape of being killed by
tho acoldsnt.
Dr. Hunter returned with Mr. Smith
to Stayton last night unci took another
team, reaching Salem at. 8:30 this
morning, whero ho called In Dr. Byrd,
and Mr. Smith's Injuries woro put In
pormanont dressings aud ho Is resting
qulto comfortably.
Dr. Hunter's trip from 4 p, m. Bun
day to 8:30 a. m. Monday was G2 tulles
