Tho old ring within the Utnte Hoard

the ring came to time, By tbe way It
is a Democratic ring. It is controlled

The Dlrootors of the Salem Woolen
Mill Co. hold a meeting Tuesday after
noon at tho company's ofllco on 12th
street, tbe purpose being to discuss
whothor or not it would be possible to
rebuild the mill. After Investigating
their resources and liabilities they find
that they are not now able to build
and cqltip nnother mill unless receiving
old. Howevor, they am anxious to
rebuild, If possible and make tho prop
osltion to tho people of Balem and
surrounding country, that they will
luoreaso their capital stock from $75,000
to $100,000, and If pnrtlos cau be found
who will subscribe and pay for tbo
additional $25,000 they will ngreo to
build a "four-set" mill aud equip It
with thrt'o cots of machinery to start
on. The old otie was a two-set mil).
Tho comptiiy uro willing to confer
with n committee, or any one Interested
In rebuilding, at any time ou this prop
osltion or any other, In order to get tbe
mill started.
Mr. Kay, 8r., has returned to Water

been sulesmun of tho output of both
mills, nnd superintendent of the Salem
mill, will show anyone just what the
mill has been paying, etc.
Every man who has subscribed stook
or given a dollar In tbe past can aflord
to douole that sum now, because he
can see that It was a good Inveetmout
for the town, aud a prolltable one from
a money stundpolut. Tho company
proposes to guarantee the In vest

AHH FJIIEND3 OF BALEM,
It 1s only the truth to say that In
assisting the Kays the people of Salem
and Marlon county aro assHiug their
beBt friends. When Thos. Kay camo
to Balem ikst ho ofTerod to put up a
mill If tho city raised, within 00 days,
$20,000. It was raised within $1,600,
when Albany cllered $25,000, and did
glvo that finally to tho Brownsville
Woolen Mill Co. Mr. Kay could have
taken It, but he showed hit Interest In
Balem by oxtoudlng the time until the
$20,000 could bo raised. Tho Kays have
always been friends to Balem. They
have tliolr homes here aud their largest
lutorests are hero. Thoy have alwavs
liberally supported &pd aided churches
and sohools and all enterprises. It Is
but just that, in the hour of their great
loss, tho community respond liberally
to aid tula enterprise iu getting 00 its
feet.
Tho mill caught (ire three years ago
aud got nearly under as much head
way as this tlmo, but three streams of
water from the company's owu fire
extinguishing system were put on and
tbe nre was quenched in a few
mtuutes, Flro drills, were held regu

mill have been burned than when It
was, which Is" some evidence of foul
