Yesterday was Native Sons and Daughters' day; so In the evening a meotlng was held In their honor, at which Col. Bobt. A. Miller, of Oregon City, delivered the formal oration. The following persons had seats in tho band stand: President Galloway, Judge Bean, A. W. Glesy, Mayor Gatch, Ex-Mayor P. H. D'Arcy, Hon. T. T. Geer, Col. Miller, Ed. O. Glltner and Dr. W. B. Morso. Messrs. Glltner and Morse are nephews of Senator Mo Bride, who Is himself a native son of Oregon. Judge Galloway made the opeuing speech, after which he Intro duced Claude Gatoh, our talented youug mayor. Mayor Gatch made a very eloquent address, briefly Impress ing on the rising generation that upon them must devolve the work of carry ing out the grand plans begun, but never to be tlnlsbed, by the old pio neers. Mr. Gatoh lauded the love of birthplace, and ended with tho old quotation from Scott which ls always new and relreshluK to the lovers of peetry: Breathes there a man with soul so dead Who never to himself hath said This Is my own, my native land?
