Oaf ttrteu m THE COUNTY COURT. Correct Statement How the New Salary Law is Pnt into Effect. Toe salary law passed by tbe last legislature reduces tbe salaries of tbe deputy county clerk and recorder and deputy aa follews: Tbe old law gave tbe .clerk" S2JW0 a year and bis deputy or deputies J2,(XW, while tbe recorder was to receive fl.&jOand $1,500 for deputies. This was amended in such a manner that tbe clerk and deputies re ceive 12,600 and UfiCO and tbe recorder and deputies $1,200 and.7S0. Tbe act took effect immediately from and after lis approval by tbe governor. However, tbe Marion county court concluded not to make tbe reduction until tbe begin ning of tbe new fiscal year in tbe de partments of tbe county and yesterday tbe first month's salary accounts came up for consideration. County Clerk Eblen's bill was drawn and allowed at tbe old salary of $375 a montb, and be drew tbe money and paid it to bis deputies aa usual. Recorder Waters put bis bill in at the old figure tor $275, having had no notice of tbe court intending to put tbe new law into eflect. It was re duced to comply with tbe new law to $1&5. Neither Mr. Waters nor Mr. Eblen have any controversy with tbe court as to tbe amount of their pay, as they do not want any more than tbe law allows them for their services. There is no rtduction iu the clerk's salary. Mr. Ehlen ays the county officers expected that tbe reduction would take place at tbe February term when the law went into effect. Tbe deputies also expected that, but tbe bills were allowed at the old figures, and at this time no change warfex. reeled. Tbe clerk's salary is not re. duced at all as tbe morning paper would Intimate. Complaint Piled. Bolter wrongfully and unlawfully took poief9ion of msld grain about August M, 1805 and refuses to turn tbe grain over to its rigbtiul owner. The plaintllt' claims that he is damaged iu the sum of $100 by defendant's actions and prnjs fur a Judgment of $243, the value of said grain, and $100 damages, against de fendants, Ifthe eraln Is not returned lo plaintiff.
