At 1 o'clock today word came to the
penitentiary ofllclals that tho convict
bad been scon in tho timber east of the
city and accordingly ofllcers wore dis
patched to securo the runaway. Doubt
less before night the man will be cap
tured and returned to tho penitentiary.
Tho- man Is mentally unbalanced
aud a lit subject for the asylum. Hav
ing poor health Travis was allowed to
work outdoors as a "trusty," and bad
but a mouth more to servo when ho
escaped.
Chus. feck was received at the pen
Itcutlary from Albany, today. He will
serve ono year for larceny.

Peebles, E. H. Anderson, D. W. Voder
and Miss Frlnk, during tho forenoon
The afternoon session conyoned at
1:30 o'clock, with singing led by Prof.
Anderson. Tills was followed by clnea
work In geography by all tbo clauses
for 45 minutes.
A Joint session was bold and tho
teachers were highly entertained by A.
J. Garland, principal of tho North
school, with n leoture on history. This
subject was thou discussed with much
animutloti by tho members of tbo
Institute

editor of tbo Northwest Journal of
Education, of Olympla, and Prof,
Louis Darsee, of tho Drain Normal
school, followed.
