THE POINTS INVOLVED.
The controversy reaches back to 1893
end Involves the ownership of about
30,000 bushels of wheat belonging to
Marion county farmers, which was
stored at the stations of Waldo, Shaw,
Switzerland and bllverton, but was
shipped and milled iu transit, under
consignment to Win. Dunbar. This
weut on to April 1, 1803, theu the
Hour shipments were consigned n
Balfour, Gutberie & Co., aud a few
small shipments to Alien 4 Lewis.
Dunbar was manager and secretary of
the Oregon Milling Co., Louis J, Ad
ams being under him In the mill at
Sllverton, and hence is the most im
portant witness, DunLar being In
China since his conviction foraldlng In
the Chluede smuggling at (Portland.

Composition aud Rhet ric.
Physical Geography.
Supplementary Rending.
There may be( county superintend

these branches of study but that does
not make any difference. They must
vote and select such'books for tbe school
children of this ftSte to use for the
next six years. It lis to bo legretted
that this farce iajlo bo carried any
farther. As Tub Juuknai, has shown
this law is a relio of MKEIroyfsm, was
lobbied through luel7h general assem
bly at the Instance 'of tbe American
Book compauy, and Is a fraud by
which tho people of4 Oregon are de
prived of all competition on school
text books and precluded from helping
themselves in any way. The operation
of this law so far has been bad. Under
Its machination Oregop people will pay
for six years for a series of school read
ers a contract price of $3.

Upon the authority of Woabluet olrker,
Skattlk, March 18. A dariugjall
delivery, headed by tho notorious Tom
Blunck, twice a murderer, was eii'ecled
at the county jail here at 7:30 o'clock
last night, In which ten prisoners, In
cluding threo convicted of murder,
made their escape. Tbo delivery was
accomplished by means of a dummy
revolver made of wood. At that hour
Night-Jailer Yerkberry went Into tho
north corridor to take medicine to W.
A. Wilcox, a convicted murderer.
When he reached the Iron door iu front
of tho cells, he saw a revolver thrust
between tho bars and heard Blanck
say.
"Throw up your hinds."
The gun-was between the jailer aud
the outer door, and, as lie hesitotad an
instant, tho command whs repeated
and tho Jailor obeyed, Blunck then
made Yerkberry turn around, took a
ropo from his pocket, tied his captive
to the bats, and then took thojallei's
